APPEAL IN THE FORM OF AN OPEN LETTER
from the Community of Concerned Citizens of Bulgaria
Your Holiness,
Esteemed leaders,
In our Community of Concerned Citizens and in the PhilК8osophical Club, which gathers every day, we have recently discussed the question of how peace can be achieved in Ukraine, in the Middle East, and everywhere else in the world. We tried to discover what the correct and reasonable way is to resolve conflicts in the modern world. After heated debates, we reached the following conclusions, which we believe should also be brought to your attention:
● War and fighting are irrational, archaic, wild, barbaric, and retrograde ways of resolving conflicts, both between states and between individuals;
● Only leaders and human beings who are overtaken by a dull, ugly emotion, that is, deprived of sound reason, would in our time resort to war and fighting in order to resolve conflicts between states or individuals;
● Brute physical force - sticks, swords, weapons, rockets, shells, bullets, and so on - is not a way of showing true superiority or righteousness: the one who is just is the truly strong one; this applies both to relations between individuals and to relations between states and their leaders;
● Whoever resorts to physical force in order to establish dominance and defeat the weaker side acts unjustly, and their “victory” is false, imaginary, temporary, and uncertain; sooner or later, justice always triumphs;
● Truth, goodness, morality, justice, spirituality, and humanity are the true force in this world, and the most powerful one: because behind it stands God Himself, the embodiment of Truth and Goodness;
● After humanity experienced, in the deeply sorrowful twentieth century, the nightmares of two world wars and the tension of the so-called “Cold War” (when the world many times reached the brink of nuclear apocalypse) peoples and human beings understood and became convinced that negotiations, discussions, debates, and the peaceful resolution of conflicts are the only correct, proper, just, and therefore reasonable and humane way to resolve absolutely all conflicts, both between individuals and, above all, between states and state leaders;
● It is absolutely unacceptable, in the modern conditions of a world and human civilization developed in every respect, for wars to be waged in order to resolve disputes and conflicts between states, and likewise for fighting to be considered an acceptable way of resolving conflicts between human beings; in modern conditions, fighting may exist only in the ring, where boxers compete by fighting and striking one another, but even then only with gloves;
● In today’s conditions, it is extremely foolish for any person, not to mention a state or world leader, to live with such backward ideas about the world and life as to think that through war or fighting one can achieve any lasting success - or impose one’s will upon other human beings or states;
● It is shameful for human beings, and especially state leaders, to degrade themselves to the use of such a foolish and barbaric means of resolving conflicts as war and fighting, and the use of physical force;
● These are not the times of Genghis Khan, Tsar Ivan the Terrible, Stalin, or Hitler for there to be wars in our civilized world, in which the means of killing and destruction are so powerful and effective that a war could lead to universal catastrophe, to a nuclear apocalypse, through which our beautiful planet and our world civilization, so rich in culture and spirituality, could be turned to ashes and destroyed;
● Those deranged individuals, activists, and leaders who relied on force, violence, terror, arbitrariness, and war - against their own people or against foreign peoples - and who relied on disrespect for and the trampling of human rights and freedom, ended in the most tragic and shameful way: Hitler, Mussolini, Stalin, Gaddafi, Saddam Hussein, Osama bin Laden, and so on;
● Every human being is a child of God, and killing them is a terrible sin; for human beings to be killed in war is an unforgivable crime against God, humanity, and law, and cannot be excused by any motives;
● Conflicts in the world, between states and human beings, will always exist, because we human beings, thank God, are different - and, let us hope, will never become completely identical;
● For this reason, humanity, represented by you, must recognize that THE ONLY PERMISSIBLE AND REASONABLE WAY TO RESOLVE ALL CONFLICTS IS THE PEACEFUL ONE, THAT IS, THE CONDUCTING OF NEGOTIATIONS AND DISCUSSIONS, AND THE SIGNING OF MUTUALLY ACCEPTABLE AND JUST AGREEMENTS;
● For this reason, we call upon you, esteemed leaders: immediately give the order to stop military actions and immediately begin negotiations with the participation of all world leaders - so that the conflicts may be resolved and the wars in Ukraine and the Middle East, as well as tensions in every other place in the world, may be stopped: Taiwan, the Kuril Islands, Kaliningrad, and the remaining areas of tension.
May the blessed time come when the world and humanity can take a breath from the barbarism of wars and threats of war - and devote themselves to constructive
work and to a free, meaningful, and spiritually rich human life.
Your Holiness,
Esteemed ladies and gentlemen world leaders,
If you contribute to the arrival of this blessed time, you will immortalize yourselves for all time and will be remembered in history as great benefactors of humanity and
guardians of humanity itself.
8 June 2026.
